An alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Surv. Emmanuel Nortey, has been conferred with the prestigious rank of Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (FGhIS) in recognition of his distinguished professional career and contribution to national development.
The honour was bestowed by the Ghana Institution of Surveyors in acknowledgement of his sustained excellence in public service, infrastructure delivery and commitment to the surveying profession in Ghana.
Surv. Nortey obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Technology from KNUST in 2001. Demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous professional development, he returned to the University to earn a Master of Science degree in Construction Management in 2015. His academic foundation at KNUST has underpinned a career marked by expertise in construction cost management and public infrastructure administration.
He became a member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors in 2010 and has since practised extensively as a Professional Quantity Surveyor in both private and public sectors. His areas of expertise include contract administration, project management and quantity surveying across diverse infrastructure and urban development projects.
Surv. Nortey began his professional career in October 2001 as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with Messrs Architect and Engineering Services Limited (AESL). He later gained valuable consultancy experience as Senior Quantity Surveyor at Otuo Oware Dox Company Ltd before joining the Department of Urban Roads as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Accra. He subsequently rose to the Northern Regional Office as the Quantity Surveyor responsible for the Tamale Metropolis, Bolgatanga and Bawku Municipalities.
From January 2010 to October 2014, he served as the Metropolitan Quantity Surveyor for the Accra Metropolitan Roads Department. He later held senior roles at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Department of Urban Roads before being posted to the Head Office as Contracts Manager, where he oversaw procurement and related services. Since 2019, he has served as a member of the Ministerial Rates Review Committee of the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
Beyond his public service contributions, Surv. Nortey has supported professional development within the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, serving as a facilitator for refresher courses for membership examinations and participating in Annual General Meetings and seminars.
He is also actively involved in community service through the Methodist Church, where he serves as a Children’s Service Teacher and as Secretary to the Project, Procurement and Development Committee of the St. John Methodist Society.
In conferring the Fellowship, the Ghana Institution of Surveyors cited his distinguished professional career, exemplary service and meaningful contribution to national development and professional education.
